Otter East Bakery & Deli in East Middlebury is the sister store to the renowned Otter Creek Bakery & Deli in downtown Middlebury. Otter Creek Bakery was founded in 1986 by Sarah and Ben Wood. Vermont originals, Otter East and the original Otter Creek Bakery are operated now by our flagship company Otter Creek Kitchens, based right here in Addison County, Vermont.
Dedicated to creating delicious food, our highly skilled team led by Pastry Chef Nicole Green will have your mouth watering with an array of items ranging from croissants and hand pies to sandwiches and savory specials. With divine food made from scratch every day right in our kitchens and bakery, we are known for our corn scones, classic pastries, locally sourced product, top selling Vermonter sandwich and delicious options for everyone.
Beyond food, we are faithful in our warm and welcoming atmosphere and are excited to encounter each new and returning customer. Our location at 51 Ossie Road in East Middlebury was the Down Home Deli market for twenty years prior to being Otter East. Our team is excited to revitalize the spirit of that local business and continue to serve our Vermont communities. Recently painted in our bright blue, with Ollie the Otter front and center, we are pleased to use this corner store space for a bakery, deli, coffee, and mercantile.
Our style is quick and convenient, which means you order at the counter and then we call your name when it is ready. We also have online ordering for easy pick up or delivery! With a focus on quality food on-the-go and the onsite mercantile, Otter East is born in hopes of serving East Middlebury and the surrounding townships with a convenient and reliable location for food and camaraderie.
Nicole’s vision for Otter East is to serve our neighbors and provide a menu geared towards their preferences. Please hit up our suggestion box, the Otter East team will review your requests so we can continue to fine tune our operation to your tastes. Nicole also has some surprises up her sleeve, so stay tuned. Of the tasty products being unveiled, Nicole is most looking forward to sharing the hearty hand pies!
Nicole enjoys her early morning routine paired with flexible menus, evolving with the seasons and the client interactions. Nicole approaches the menu by planning for the customers’ varying desires; a tasty and classic donut for comfort or a massive corn muffin to fill the belly. Nicole wants to provide a great start to the day.
Nicole will be making some different items than our “mothership” location in Middlebury but we will also carry some of our standards. Otter East’s location is uniquely positioned to be en route to town and job sites when working, or the nearby lakes and mountains, when playing!
